Aston Villa vs Wolves by the numbers: key insights
- Opta Supercomputer expects Aston Villa to win, with the hosts dominating the pre-match simulation with a winning percentage of 57.61 TP3T.
- Wolves have won just one of their last 14 Premier League games (D3 L10) and are winless in seven (D1 L6).
- Ollie Watkins has been involved in seven goals in his last six top-flight home games for Villa.
Aston Villa will be full of confidence heading into Saturday's Premier League clash against arch-rivals Wolves following their convincing midweek Champions League victory.
Unai Emery's side had little trouble in their first game in Europe, with Yuri Tilemans, Jacob Ramsey and Amadou Onaona all scoring as they beat the youth side 3-0 on Tuesday.
The victory made it three wins in a row in all competitions for Villa, who came from two goals down to beat Everton 3-2 in their last league game. Ollie Watkins' second inspired the comeback before super-sub Jon Doolan scored again at Villa Park.

The home side is where Watkins' heart lies - the striker has been involved in seven goals, scoring four and assisting three in his last six Premier League games at Villa Park. Overall, he has been involved in 48 goals at Villa Park (33 goals, 15 assists), second only to Gabriel Agbonlahor (49) in this competition, although the England striker faces stiff competition from Tulane up front.
Doolan has scored the winning goal in all three of Villa's league victories this season, all three coming off the bench. However, that streak could come to an end here as no player in Premier League history has scored four goals off the bench in a single season.
Doolan's most notable winning goal came against Everton, when he fired in a left-footed lob from 30 yards out that could have given Wolves cause for concern. They have conceded a Premier League-high three goals from outside the box this season, including two goals in their last 1-2 loss to Newcastle United.
Mario Lemina opened the scoring for Wolves at the Molineux Stadium before Fabian Scherer and Harvey Barnes helped the hosts to a long-range goal. Gary O'Neill's side are winless in the league this season and added to their misery with a 3-2 loss in Wednesday's EFL Cup third round tie against Brighton.
In fact, since the beginning of March, Wolves have lost more games than any other Premier League team (11). They have also won fewer games (2) and gained fewer points (9) than any other top-flight team in that time.
Add to that the fact that they have won just one of their last 14 Premier League games (D3 L10) and are winless in seven (D1 L6) since their 2-1 win over Luton Town in April, and these issues seem worrying for O'Neill.
Saturday's visitors are on their longest winless streak since a 12-game winning streak from April to August 2022, and it's hard to imagine they'll change their fortunes against Emery's well-trained hosts.
Villa have won three of their four Premier League games this season, losing the other 0-2 to Arsenal. They are now aiming to win as many as four of their first five games in the Champions League, having only done so previously in 1998-99, 2009-10 and 2020-21.
Aston Villa vs Wolves Head to Head
However, it's not all bad news for O'Neill's side. Wolves have lost just one of their last five away games against Aston Villa (D2 L2).
However, that loss did happen in this game last season as Moussa Diaby and Ezri Konsa both scored in the game at Villa Park.
Villa have only won back to back Premier League matches against Wolves at home in the first two Premier League matches of the 2003-04 season.
Aston Villa vs Wolves Predictions
The Opta supercomputer is hard pressed to see anything other than a home win here, as Villa has posted a convincing 57.61 TP3T in 10,000 pre-race simulations.
The Wolves' best hope may be a draw, which is predicted in a simulated game dominated by a stat of 21.4%, just ahead of a road win at 21%.
After a good start to the season, Villa have also jumped to 161 TP3T in their end-of-season projections, while the Wolves are 17th - one spot above their current position - most commonly at 16.51 TP3T.
